Blackfriars Settlement & Young Vic Deliver Hot Meals to Local Residents

We’re proud to have partnered with our friends at Blackfriars Settlement to assist with the delivery of hot meals to vulnerable residents in our local area.

Although the Young Vic is closed to the public, our mission of playing an active part in our local community has continued. Twice a week a small team of Young Vic staff volunteers are joining the Blackfriars Settlement  team to deliver 50 hot meals to vulnerable residents in Southwark. The meals are being supplied by catering company Fooditude, which re-opened their kitchen earlier this month to start producing meals for the most isolated and vulnerable in our community.

The hot meals were accompanied by ‘Creative Wellbeing Cards’ made as part of ‘TWENTY TWENTY’, a year-long community project presented by Young Vic Taking Part, in partnership with Blackfriars Settlement, Certitude and Thames Reach, aiming to foster in-depth creative relationships within the community. This project has adapted in light of the UK-wide lockdown, with workshops being delivered by writers and directors weekly in a digital format, and workshop packs being sent out to those that can only receive post or emails.

Blackfriars Settlement is a Southwark-based charity which provides a range of services to improve the health and well-being of some of the most marginalised and socially isolated members of their community. Find out more about their work here.

The Young Vic receives public subsidy from Arts Council England and Lambeth & Southwark Borough Councils.
