We're celebrating 25 years of Taking Part with a joyous season of work created with our local communities. Find out more.

Do you have stories to tell and are you thinking about the best way to tell them? Are you thinking about how you might use a mixture of movement, light, sound, music, and performance to make a piece of theatre? Have you heard of multi-disciplinary theatre making and want to know more about what it is? Would you like to find out more over a week at the Young Vic? If that sounds like you, then this course could be for you.

As an Introduction to Making participant, you will work with multi-practice writer and director Leo Skilbeck to:

  • Learn some new skills around telling stories and how to use different elements when making live performance – like film, sound, queer performance, music.
  • Explore techniques for developing ideas and performances.
  • Explore what it means to be a multi-disciplinary/anti-disciplinary performance maker.
  • Look at playwriting and getting started as a writer, as well as directing and approaching text work.
  • Have a chance to think about what stories you want to tell and why you want to tell them.
  • Find out a bit more about what your next steps might be if you find you want to take this further.
  • Get to know other theatre makers and maybe make some connections for the future.
  • See a show at the Young Vic and if possible go and visit a gallery or exhibition.

This will be a queer and trans centred space which is open and welcome to all.
